Windows is a body of work I started taking seriously about 3 years ago, in 1999. I had always been a purist regarding black and white photography as art, and to me, colour only existed for commercialism, for advertising. I was taken by a reflection is shop window in Knightsbridge one afternoon and remembered I only had colour film in my camera from a weekend of snaps of my kids. Petrified whether to take an art photo in colour or lose the image forever, I did the unforgivable and took the chance. After a bit of tuning up the contrast and saturation, I became so taken with this colour image that I have continued the effort photographing the best shop windows in London and Paris and beyond. I find the ingenuity and sensuality of the styling and of the manequins terribly intriguing and a visual experience worth exploring.
